Reviewing the Vision
Wednesday, 26 May 2010
Words by Sarah Johnson

Somewhat like celebrating Christmas in July, discussing vision posters in June may seem a bit muddled, yet at Intrinsic we believe that it's never too late, or too early, to create a vision for your future.
In January, we published the article: How to Create a Vision Poster, a step-by-step guide inspired by Olivia Basheer, our newest web intern who has created three posters since 2005. The idea obviously resonated with the Intrinsic team, because two of them recently revealed their visionary results. We hope sharing these will inspire you to get cracking on your own poster, or perhaps encourage you to share with us what you've already created.

Ever-prompt Emma didn't waste any time crafting her prophetic masterpiece, it was done and swiftly displayed in her bedroom only three days into 2010 and now sits on a window sill directly opposite her bed. As Emma says, “I literally wake up and go to sleep with it looking at me – it's hard not to notice.”
Emma has categorised her poster into key areas, including: Creating art, Fitness, Love, Travel & Culture, Fun and Me. Within each segment, Emma has detailed her vision with specific goals, inspiring quotes and qualities she hopes to embrace. Emma's poster is beautifully tactile with a sense of whimsy, incorporating fabrics, magazine clippings and artwork that inspire her.

Just five months on, much of Emma's vision is either taking shape or has become a reality. “It has certainly been hugely inspirational to me,” enthuses Emma. Just last month, she travelled to Japan to visit family and friends and is now waiting to hear the results of a Denmark exchange application. Emma can tick the Travel, Art and Love boxes: she has published a book; is enjoying body balance classes; and has even met someone special! “This board is actually quite reflective of my life at the moment,” says Emma. “It's all coming together beautifully and is absolutely a work in progress.”

Sarah wasn't as fast out of the blocks, creating her poster in late February, although she did start collating the phrases and mantras that were important to her as they came to mind. As you can see, Sarah has chosen a minimalist-style and framed her poster in an inexpensive Ikea Ribba frame, which is prominently displayed on a wall in her home office. A mix of goals (Learn to meditate) and guiding virtues (Be grateful), Sarah says the poster helps her stay on track. “When life gets busy, it's easy to lose sight of what's important. A quick glance at the poster is a simple way to ground myself.”
