Uncovering your Innerpreneur Part 2

Tuesday, 31 Mar 2009

5 ways to release your innerpreneur:

  • Listen to the sound of your soul – if you know life could be better but you’re not sure how or where to begin, start now by simply listening to your inner voice. Through journaling, meditating or the act of creating, you can begin to reveal what’s important to you.
  • Connect with your life’s purpose – it’s central to the theme of the innerpreneur but because we view life purpose as such an all encompassing idea we turn it into a big hard construct and complicate it. If you’re not sure what your purpose is and don’t have the resources to engage a life coach, I learnt a simple 3-step tool about 15 years ago that has stayed with me. First, write down your unique qualities, second write down how you use those qualities to interact with others, finally, reflect on how you want to make a difference in the world. Now, form it into a straightforward sentence by taking your top two or three qualities and combine those with how you best interact with others and make a difference, to create a simple sentence of purpose. It can be as simple as…I, Adele, use my passion, creativity and courage to connect with and inspire others so that the world is a more harmonious place.
  • Refuel your spiritual tank – innerpreneurs take time out to reflect on their journey and to seek new inspiration. Taking sabbaticals, purpose-driven time off, or just time out to pursue personal passions are all part of the innerpreneur’s toolkit.
  • Interact with other innerpreneurs – support and mentor each other, exchange ideas, delight in watching each other grow.
  • Seek opportunity and be prepared to take risks - where there is a gap, find a way to fill it. My neighbour told me the other day that his favourite boss was the one who said to him, “Don’t come to me telling me something won’t work unless you’ve already come up with a better alternative.” This is at the heart of the innerpreneur, seeing gaps in the market, wondering how to make things better and rewriting the history books by taking the steps to make it happen.

If you would like a more in-depth explanation of the Life’s Purpose tool, email me and I’ll expand on it for you.

Stay tuned….next month our theme is It’s all about you!
